Mithu Sen |
|||
| Of all systems of conceptual notations and encoding ground reality, the map perhaps is the most readable and evocative. The poet painter Mithu Sen, is a Santiniketan trained artist, now living in Delhi. Mithu uses the map image (or is it more a concept?), in a variety of ways in her two dimensional constructions. While the clearly articulated maps become locales for habitats, the maps which go below piles of transluscent papers are wistfully evocative of terrains one visited long ago or which one longs to visit. The memories or the dreams which one nurses fondly, enwrapped in the warmth of an old and worn out Kantha or patch-up quilt. Old memories flow into longings for future travels, through water courses which run constantly through Mithu’s map, like arteries. Letters too travel through time and space, bringing inarticulate messages, in her paintings. |
