Nalini Malani

She is an artist with a social conscience, for whom art merely for art’s sake does not hold. Therefore, the lives of the poor living in the chawls of Bombay and the alienation and helplessness of women, preoccupy her and are expressed in her paintings. In her water colours, the figures – mostly that of women huddled together – loom large and occupy the major portion of the pictorial space, provoking the viewers to focus on what she is trying to express. Nalini Malani lives in Bombay.
