Chittrovanu Mazumdar

Chittrovanu Mazumdar ( b.1956) was educated at the Government College of Art and Craft, Calcutta. His larger than life canvas’s painted in an expressionistic style, conveys a sense of alienation of contemporary life which is drifting more and more towards banal commercialisation. The other aspect of contemporary life which seems to pre-occupy him is violence. In an exhibition catalogue, Anjum Katyal remarks very aptly that “The whole act of painting for this artist has grown more and more swift, charged, urgent. The aggressive handling of space, the tortured, convulsed, fractured anthropomorphic forms, the blood-like drippings of paint, all bespeak violence….”.
